Committees
The prime executive branch of the Student Association is the Central Committee. As such, it is the highest authority in communicating resolutions of the student body to the Bard College faculty, administration, staff, and outside groups. Additionally, this committee sets the agenda and presides over monthly forum meetings. It consists of the Student Association Secretary and Treasurer, as well as the chairs of the four standing committees.
The SJB is the judiciary branch of the Student Association. The purpose of the SJB is to enforce, protect, and preserve the rights of all Bard students. The SJB hears cases about non-academic violations of college policies, as outlined in the Community Standards of Behavior and in the Student Handbook, and assigns appropriate sanctions. The sanctions are then implemented by the appropriate authority. Anyone in the Bard community may file a complaint. It consists of a chair, four full members, one first-year alternate, the Dean of Students, an administrator appointed by the President, and one faculty member appointed by the Faculty Executive Committee.
The SLC coordinates with the Dean of Students staff, Security, Buildings and Grounds, Chartwells Food Service, and various other student services to work on improving the quality of all issues concerning student services and residential life. The SLC also reviews the effects of existing and proposed college policy on student life. Any member of the Student Association may file proposals, suggestions, or complaints in writing to the SLC. It consists of a chair, six full members, and one first-year alternate.
Educational Policies Committee
The EPC acts as the liaison between students and faculty on academic issues and curriculum changes. The EPC also collects evaluation letters and oral testimony from students concerning the re-hiring and tenure decisions of the faculty. It consists of a chair, three students from each of the four academic divisions, and two first-year and sophomore alternates.
The Planning Committee allocates the Convocation Fund, accumulated by each student’s Student Activities Fee, to all the student clubs and organizations at the beginning of each semester. It also oversees Emergency Fund requests throughout the semester. In addition, the Planning Committee organizes the Annual Club Head Meeting and holds budget-writing workshops. It consists of a chair, the Treasurer of the Student Association, five full members, and one freshman alternate.
