Overview

Bard EMS is a free and confidential emergency medical service, operating 24/7 on campus.

On campus, we work closely with Security, Health Services, and Counselling Services, as well as other departments of the administration. We also work with the local EMS organizations in the area, Red Hook and Tivoli Rescue Squads, as well as the EMS company Northern Dutchess Paramedics (NDP).

Because of the atypical location of the campus; we can be on scene faster than local ambulances, with our average response time being around 3 to 5 minutes. We are entirely student-run and funded by the Convocation Fund (club funding). Because of this, we are not dependent on or directly affiliated with the administration.

We are also not a transport EMS. This means that we do not own an ambulance to take you to the hospital, which is why local EMS organizations transports patients with medical emergencies. At the discretion of the supervisor on call, BEMS has the option of using Bard SRG’s Emergency Driver service, which takes non-critical and stable patients to the hospital.

All BEMS members are either training to be, or already are, NY State certified EMT-Bs. Trainees are observers on call, while all others are certified EMT-Bs.
