Overview of Bard Brewing Co./Annandale Ales
In the past, Bard parties and events have often been accompanied by poor quality beer that is consumed at rapid rates in large quantities. The concept behind the Bard Brew Club is to slow down the process and enrich the experience by providing the resources for Bard students themselves to brew high quality beer locally. In the process of transforming hops and malt to a drinkable final product, brewing provides the participants with a hands-on education in natural chemistry and the biological processes involved in fermentation.
Last semester Bard Brewing Co. / Annandale Ales, made an effort to expand and gain new members. The expansion was a success and the club was able to provide locally brewed beer for a number of art openings where the quality of beer could be appreciated in a relaxed atmosphere. This semester, I am looking for new members again as many previous members have graduated, but more importantly, I am looking to sponsor those same art openings as well as a beer tasting event later in the semester where the various beers the club has produced over the year can be sampled and compared.
Note: Questions may arise as to the funding of this club and the recent ban on convocation money going to alcohol. This ban is not applicable to the Bard Brewing Co., as we do not purchase any alcohol; rather our funding goes exclusively to the purchase of ingredients and equipment (i.e. buckets, carboys, malt, hops, yeast, etc.). Furthermore, the beer we produce is not sold but provided free of charge at the events we sponsor.
