We've gotten off to a slow start this semester, but you can expect that LASO will be cramming in it's usual sponsored events, including parties, lectures/discussions, films, conferences and theater performances.

Religion and Culture in Latin America

Party!

At the beginning of November we are planning to coordinate two events dealing with religion and culture in Latin America. The first event, happening on November 1 in Olin 102 at 7pm, will be a discussion/slide presentation by Hector Delgado, a photographer. He will be giving a talk on his work dealing with Santería, a sincretic Afro-Caribbean religion. The second event will occur the night of November 2 in the Campus Center Lounge. We are setting up an altar in the tradition of the Mexican Day of the Dead (El día de los muertos) to commemorate victims of the tragedy on September 11. This is an opportunity for all bard students to come together and share any feelings they might have surrounding this event as well as to commemorate the loss of loved ones. Please bring poems, artwork, mementos, anything you would like to decorate the altar. Refreshments will be provided.

Usually LASO hold its biggest party in the Spring with Carnaval, but this party will definitely be of comparable size and excitement! We're bringing up the Salsa Band Soñando, who've played at Carnaval and the Tent Party as well as a DJ from the city. This event will take place on November 9 at 10pm in the Old Gym. We can use all the help we can get setting and cleaning up, so if you want to join us, e-mail laso@bard.edu.
