2005-2006: Another Excellent Season for Bard Debate

Bard College Debate is very excited to have completed another excellent season. After last year's great successes as a first year program, we had a lot to live up to, but we exceeded our own expectations! This season we travelled 16 debaters to 12 different tournaments, hosted our own tournament at Bard, brought home our first championship trophy among numerous other team and speaker awards including both 1st and 4th speaker awards at Novice/JV Nationals! We concluded the season with an outstanding performance at CEDA Nationals, at which Nathan Sweed and Ravenna Wilson went 5-3 and were double-octafinalists, and novice team, Cassie Cornell and Rushaine McKenzie pulled off an impressive 4-4 record!

The debate topic for 2005-2006 was: US Foreign Policy With CHINA

In college policy debate, we debate the same resolution all year. This year we debate the following resolution:

Resolved: The United States Federal Government should substantially increase diplomatic and economic pressure on the People's Republic of China in one or more of the following areas: trade, human rights, weapons nonproliferation, Taiwan.

The Team:

back row: Lisa Dratch, Litta Naukushu (captain), Noah Weston, Ravenna Wilson, Angelina Fox
middle row: Nathan Sweed, David Duckler, Reanna Blackford, Neesha Fakir, Travis Rubury
front row: Cassie Cornell, Ruth Zisman (director), Stephen Davis (asst coach), Rushaine McKenzie
not present: Kelly DeToy, Brad Powles, Beverley Annan
