bard film committee
about us
The Bard Film Committee is an active student-run organization that serves a weekly dose of entertainment for the entire Bard community. We screen two or more films FOR FREE every Friday and Sunday evenings in Weis Cinema, our wonderful home, located at the heart of the Campus Center.

We make every effort to make the comunity aware of our events, as our existence is entirely dependent on student support. We are able to provide free weekly screenings and sometimes even serve popcorn (also free) to the audience, first, from the generous hardwork of our projectionists (who are not getting paid for any of these), and from the entire student body, part of whose activity fee goes directly to the Convocation Fund, from which the BFC receives its operational budget.

Since our primary goal is to entertain the community, we are very responsive to all of your comments and suggestions. We plan our entire line-up a semester ahead of time; we take each and every single one of the double feature and/or movie marathon requests that we receive and do show most of them. Everything is planned and discussed in an open meeting--officers, members, and anyone else who'd love to participate are always welcome to join us. However, since we must plan ahead of time, any requests that we receive after the schedule has already been finished will not be considered until the next unplanned semester (e.g. the fall '05 schedule is planned during the last month of spring semester, so by the summer, the entire fall '05 schedule has already been scheduled; any requests received after or during the summer will be considered for spring '06).

No really, the Film Committee members are very easy-going and approachable. We've got a lot to do to maintain an organization of this scale, but we're really not as uptight as we may sound. Ask us for a poster and if we haven't received any other prior requests for the same one, we'll give it to you. If you wanna make a particular Friday or Sunday a "popcorn night," we'll turn on the kettle and start popping. We also try to collaborate with other clubs to put on a great show for everyone. In the past, we've collaborated with the following clubs: Horror Movie Club, Asian Film Club, Anime Club, Fu and 40z, Asian American Student Organization, Bard Democrats, and Habitat for Humanity. We are also forever indebted to the Office of Student Activities, who, like the BFC in Fall '05, will be headed by a whole new crew. We hope to retain our existing relationship with the Office so we could continue to do what we do best: showing a ton of movies for those who like to watch.
